Description

9/12/23 - This is a Carl Stiegele Double Barrel 12 Ga Shotgun manufactured in the 1920's. Carl Stiegele was a prominent arms maker from the late 1800s, notable for his manufacture of combination rifles and shotguns for royalty around the world. Examples were found for Bavarian royalty, as well as the Meiji Emperor. The gun is matching with the proper proofs. The barrel is stamped “K??nigl Bayer Hofgewehrfabrik v. C. Stiegele Jun Muchen” on the rib. Underneath there are numerous stamps; 6394 like the receiver, proof “S” stamps, “341”, and a stamp of what appears to be a man with a walking stick which matches the receiver. The Forearm has a faint stamp that looks like “469.”This shogun has retained about 70% of its finish, with the metal well worn on the receiver. The barrel still has a nice dark finish, indicating age-related wear but not much actual finish loss. The bore is bright and smooth by design, with some minor frost. The stock has a repaired crack at the tang and down to the trigger, visible from both sides.
