Description
4/4/24 - This is a very nice example of a Springfield Model 1903 rifle that was reworked by the United States Marine Corp for WW2. The receiver is marked Springfield, numbered with an early serial from 1906, and features a "Hatcher Hole" on the left side. The barrel is marked "U.S.M.C." and dated "9-41" with a "s" within a circle stamped below, indicating this barrel is a Sedgely barrel reworked into the rifle for WW2. Other USMC attributes include electro-pencil numbering on the bolt and the checkered butt plate. The right side of the butt stock has a "QQ 46" marking. The finish on the metal parts rates roughly 90%. While there isn't a ton of actual finish loss, there are areas of light brown patina throughout and some noticeable spotty oxidation on the front barrel band. The stock shows obvious sings of wear. A couple of very light hairline cracks in the butt stock and upper handguard. The bore has great rifling with very light frosting throughout.Specifications
