Description

10/31/24 - This is a minty example of a Smith and Wesson Model 66-2 Revolver issued to the LAPD in about 1983. All matching, and the second "6" in "66" is overstamped "8". This is commonly seen on these guns. Also known as the .38 Special California Highway Patrol (CHP) Model 66-2 or "68-2". It is a traditional double action revolver built on the Square Butt K Target Frame and is rated for +P ammunition. These were manufactured for the CHP and later for the Los Angeles Police Department in 1983 when the California Highway Patrol was not permitted to carry .357 Magnum sidearms. This revolver is marked “LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT” on the right side of the barrel. Interestingly, the frame is also over-stamped on the model marking changing from “66-2” to “68-2”, in the correct serial prefix range - "AE_". The inside of the grip panels has some sort of seal and appears to be dated July 3 1983. The gun has a nice stainless finish and is in minty condition. Mint bore.
