Description
5/14/25 - This is a nice example of a late Victorian English classic. Dating to circa 1875, this revolver was manufactured in the Birmingham Gun Quarter for domestic sales on the English market, or possibly for export. A landmark product for Webley, this potent pocket sidearm was derived from the RIC constabulary revolver, featured a solid frame, double-action function, bird's head grips, was at one time the most copied design on the planet, being as common on the streets of San Francisco as it was in London. This example show little wear apart from honest age, with a 2 1/2" blued barrel and unfluted cylinder, case-hardened frame, and checkered grips of finely figured Walnut. The markings consist of a bold, hand-engraved 'BRITISH/BULLDOG' on top of the frame, Birmingham House proofs, all parts appear matched by a recurring, three-punch dot assembly code, and the gun may have indeed been made by Webley, although the only hint of the maker is found in a 'J/(indecipherable symbol)' on the cylinder face. Excellent bore with strong rifling. Fully functional.Specifications
