Description

5/6/25 - This is an excellent example of a BYF 42 "Black Widow" Mauser Luger issued to the German military in 1942. It is all matching, has the proper "Eagle 135" military acceptance proofs, and fitted with an excellent set of original "Black Widow" bakelite grips. It comes as a rig with two original "Black Widow" magazines, an "Eagle 63" tool, and an excellent 1942-dated holster. The gun itself has retained about 96% of its original finish with hints of high edge wear and a few marks on the front strap and left side of the barrel. The bore shows surface freckling throughout. As you can see, there are SS Runes on the left side of the slide and frame. These were applied post-factory. Our consignor purchased this gun in 1973 and claims it was purchased from the son of the German soldier who owned it. Apparently, these SS Runes were applied during the war. Besides the following account from our consignor, we have no way of corroborating the story: "I purchased most of my items from Ray Zyla, owner of Mohawk Arms in Bouckville, NY, and an Austrian friend, Federico Conc (not his Austrian name) who I met in Argentina in 1972. Federico was the son of a Waffen SS Scharfuehrer (Sergeant) who was a member of SS EinsatzGruppe ‘C’, commanded by Paul Blobel, that preceded the advancing Wehrmacht troops in Russia, killing any partisans, especially Jews and communists. EinsatzGruppe ‘C’ also participated in the massacre at Babi Yar (Ukraine) in September 1941. At this time, the German gassing methods had not been fully developed and many of the killings were via a single bullet to the back of the neck. In 1945, Federico’s father, along with Paul Blobel, were placed on the War Criminals list. Blobel was captured and tried at Nuremberg. In 1951, he was executed by hanging at Landsberg Prison. With the assistance of Vatican Catholic Bishop Alois Hudal, Federico and his father were given forged papers to allow their escape to Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 1973, I purchased a number of rare items from Federico, including his father’s “Black Widow” Luger. This Luger is complete with holster, extra magazine and take-down tool. It is the Luger that Federico’s father used during his assignments in Ukraine and Russia. The SS Runes were stamped at the SS Armory in Bad Tolz, Bavaria."
