Springfield Krag Jorgensen Model 1896 - 1898 mfg with Provenance

11/14/24 - For sale is a Krag-Jorgensen Model 1896 made by the Springfield Arsenal in 1898. This rifle comes with a provenance letter from The Archival Research Group. This letter indicates that this particular rifle was issued to a William Exter True of the 20th Kansas Vol. Infantry and that it saw service in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War. The letter gives a brief history on the service record of William Exter True, and states that these records were found in the National Archives of Washington D.C., and includes color print-outs of the documentation from the National Archives. The rifle retains 60% of its original bluing with much of the bluing loss being on the receiver. There are spots of oxidation and patina throughout the rifle. The stock is in fair condition and is complete. However, the stock has multiple cracks. The is a crack on the top hand guard that extends from the receiver to the sight base. The bottom of the stock has cracks from the center portion of the stock to the trigger guard. The last visible crack is on the left side of the stock and goes from the bottom right corner of the receiver to under the inspection/date stamp. The stock is inspection marked on the left side with a "JSA" cartouche, the date underneath is no longer visible. The stock is also marked by the trigger guard with the number "34" and a "P". The bore on this rifle is in decent condition rating a 7/10, and does have darkening in the grooves of the rifling. This rifle also has what appears to be it's original cleaning kit in the buttstock of the rifle.
