8/7/25 - Here we have a wooden gas alarm which would have been used by American Expeditionary Forces around the time of the first world war. This particular example appears to be unissued. It was designed to alert troops of oncoming gas attacks. Cranking the handle causes the wood to smack the cog and creates a very loud noise. The wood is in excellent condition. There is some darkening of the wood on the bottom of the alarm but nothing that impedes function. Alarm is fully functional with a stamp that reads: “FOR USE AS GAS ALARM ONLY”.
