Description
3/12/26- For sale is a Model 1832 Foot Artillery sword made by Ames. These swords were introduced in the 1830s as the sidearm for artillery crews and were clearly inspired by the famous gladius from Ancient Rome. As artillery crews rarely are close enough to the enemy to use swords, these weapons were primarily decorative or used as improvised utility tools. There is some blade patina but no serious damage, blade chips, or rust. One side of the blade is stamped with "Ames Mfg. Co. Chicopee Mass." and the other side is stamped "U.S.", along with another worn away stamp, likely the year mark. The crossguard and hilt are cast from brass with mild patina and wear but no serious damage. The pommel has a cast eagle design. The leather scabbard is worn but has no cracks or tears. The nails holding on brass scabbard tip are gone so the tip is loose. Overall in very good condition.
