Description
06/06/26 - This is an ANIB, first year production example of the Smith & Wesson Model 586 no-dash “Distinguished Combat Magnum” chambered in .357 Magnum. Featuring a 6-inch barrel, ramp front sight, adjustable rear sight, and its matching-numbered S&W factory box. Produced between 1984-1986 and built on S&W’s L-frame, the 586 was introduced as an ideal compromise between weight and maneuverability for .357 Magnum revolvers, being stronger than the K-frame Combat Magnums while trimmer than the N-frame magnums. The yoke cut is marked below the serial number with “M” and “MOD. 586”, confirming this as a Model 586 no-dash originally manufactured in 1984, and that it received the S&W’s 1987 L-frame hammer-nose/firing-pin bushing modification, with the visibly reduced hammer nose and corresponding firing-pin hole consistent with that update. This revolver is all matching, with the serial number stamped correctly on the butt of the grip frame and the yoke cut, and the assembly number is stamped on the yoke and left side of the grip frame. The revolver has retained virtually all of its bluing, with only a faint turn line on the cylinder and a few scattered handling marks. The bore is minty, bright with sharp rifling and few signs of use. Fitted with an excellent set of sharply-checkered target grips, emblazoned with Smith & Wesson medallions on each panel. The original dark blue factory box is in great shape, with minor edge and corner wear. Also included is the original owner's manual, safety and instructions booklet, and the April 1987 S&W L-frame M-modification notice.
