Description
10/14/26 - Pepperbox revolvers were so named because the front of the barrel cluster resembled a pepper pot of the time, a circle of round holes. This example was made by Allen & Wheelock of Worcester, Massachusetts, the firm Ethan Allen formed with his brother-in-law Thomas Wheelock in 1856, and it dates to the late 1850s. It is a five-shot pocket model with a bar hammer marked "PATENTED APRIL 16, 1845," chambered in .31 caliber. It appears to be matching, with the number 33 on the barrel group and frame. The gun has no remaining finish, with areas of light pinpricking on much of the gun. There are a couple of areas of pitting and oxidation on the barrels, along with a few areas of noticeable dings. Fitted with nice wood grips with a couple of marks on the left side. An honest, functional Allen & Wheelock pepperbox from the 1850s. The bores show noticeable surface oxidation and rust, 1/10. Fully functional. No FFL required.
