Description
10/15/25 - This is a Smith & Wesson .455 Mark II Hand Ejector 2nd Model double action revolver, produced during World War I for British service. Based on the large N-frame platform, these robust revolvers were chambered for the .455 Mark II cartridge and supplied under contract to Great Britain and other Commonwealth forces. Production began in 1915, with most examples shipped overseas between 1915 and 1917 to help meet wartime demand. The 2nd Model can be identified by its lack of the front locking lug under the barrel, a simplification introduced to speed production compared to the earlier 1st Model “Triple Lock.” These revolvers typically feature a 6½-inch barrel, six-shot cylinder, and fixed sights. After the war, many were returned to the United States, with some converted to .45 ACP or .45 Colt, though original .455 examples like this remain desirable among collectors for their wartime history and original configuration. This one has not been converted and is completely matching. British proofs throughout. It's original finish rates about 97%. While there is very little actual finish loss, there are small scratches and handling marks throughout and some areas of surface oxidation - most noticeable on the right side of the barrel. Excellent case-hardening on the hammer and trigger. Fitted with nice hand-checkered wood grips. The bore is like-new.
