Description
2/16/26- For sale is an M1840 cavalry saber made by the Tiffany jewelry company during the Civil War era. Although Tiffany is much more famous as a jewelry company, during the Civil War era when luxury jewelry was in low demand, they accepted war contracts to keep their factories running, leading to military items like this saber made by what is normally a luxury brand. The blade is bright, with only a few light spots of patina. One side is marked with "Tiffany & Co. New York" and the other side is marked with "P.D.L.", which stands for Peter Daniel Lüneschloss, a German blade maker and exporter. There is patina on the handguard but no serious damage. The leather of the grip is mostly intact but the wire wrap is slightly loose towards the blade end. There is patina along about 90% of the scabbard but no major dents or rust. The pommel of the sword and the neck of the scabbard both have roughly marked "IIIV" markings. Overall in very good condition.
