8/18/26 - This is a Colt Government Model Mk IV Series 70, manufactured in 1974 and chambered in .38 Special Wadcutter It was professionally accurized at Jim Clark Sr.’s Keithville, Louisiana shop, as denoted by the slide marking “Clark Heavy Slide Keithville LA 71047.” Clark Sr. built these for NRA and CMP service pistol competitions. . Because the rimless .38 Super and rimmed .38 Special mid-range wadcutter rounds differ significantly, gunsmith J. James Clark and other specialty smiths frequently used factory Colt .38 Super frames/slides, modifying or remarketing them to build specialized .38 Special mid-range target competition pistols. This one is equipped with a red dot sight, has a trigger extension, custom grips, custom stippling on the front strap, and sand paper on the grip straps. Comes with three magazines that are all marked for .38 Special. The gun has retained about 92% of its finish with some light scratchy wear, mostly toward the front half of the slide. Unfortunately, the barrel shows a slight bulge about halfway down. Otherwise the bore is excellent. We do not recommend firing this gun with this barrel. Replacement barrels are fairly easy to find online.
