Description
2/4/20 - This is a Colt M1851 Navy revolver, made in 1857 and chambered for .36 caliber. All matching numbers, including wedge. Fine to very good condition with good cylinder scene (Naval battle with Mexico; Engaged 16 May, 1843), un-buggered screws and decent bore. The revolver cycles correctly, the hammer engages properly with no play and all the hammer notches work with good lock-up. There is very little wear to the cylinder notches. Typical Address SamÄôl Colt, New York City on barrel. Most of the metal finish has worn to silvery gray, with traces of patina. The trigger is still blued. There are two assembly proofs on the trigger guard; M and K. About 50% original grip varnish remains, with about 40% silver plate on the trigger guard, heel and backstrap. The safety pins on the cylinder are worn, but are still evident. I would not be afraid to shoot this fine old Colt from the Civil War period. The holster is a period Mexican double loop type with an unknown maker monogram. It came with the Navy Colt from an old gun shop in Laredo Texas during the 1960s. A fine old piece of Western history.Specifications
