SOLD - Hydrogen Balloon Generator WW2

1/30/25 - For sale is an original US Army Signal Corps hydrogen balloon generator. This canister was used to generate hydrogen gas. This gas was then used to inflate large balloons. These balloons, typically called “barrage balloons,” were used to create a barrier of cables in the sky. This, in turn, served as a means of aerial defense against enemy aircraft. The generators used in this process typically reacted chemicals such as sulfuric acid with iron filings to generate hydrogen gas. This particular example comes in excellent condition as far as the exterior is concerned; for obvious reasons, we are unsure what condition the inside contents are in. The ink stamp that wraps around the tube is lightly faded but is still very legible, and the paper instruction panel is fully legible and has the original string intact. Excellent overall condition.
