German Army Officer Dagger w/ Portepee - Rare Eickhorn 2nd Cross Guard Type

7/28/26 - An original WW2 German Army officer's dagger by Eickhorn, wearing the scarcer second-type Eickhorn cross guard. The silver fittings of the guard carry a very nice deep patina, and the burnt-orange celluloid grip is excellent with no cracks or chips. The portepee appears original, though it is not tied correctly, with some fraying in a few spots but overall good shape. The pommel's patina matches the rest of the dagger exactly and carries oak leaf and acorn engraving - oddly, a few modern washers sit beneath it. The blade bears the proper etched Eickhorn logo with full factory crossgrain visible on both faces; aside from the uppermost region - where there is a very slight upward bend at the tip, a slightly off-center point profile, and light scuffing with sharpening/grinding marks - the blade is unsharpened with a perfect profile and in very good overall condition. The scabbard is original, dent-free, and a lovely patina-silver color, with less patina near the throat and joints. Second-guard Eickhorns are a recognized rarity among dagger collectors - this one displays beautifully.
