Description
4/2/26 - This is an excellent example of a Remington Rand Model 1911A1 issued to the US military in 1943. It is all correct with the proper "HS" High Standard barrel. It has retained about 96-97% of its original parkerized finish with just very minor high edge/muzzle wear, one small spot of wear on the underside of the trigger guard, and a few tiny marks on the slide. Fitted with proper reddish plastic grips and comes with a period-correct "R" marked magazine. Very nice bore with strong rifling and just very light frosting in the grooves. There is a post-factory marking on the left side of the slide that reads "Erbeutet am 8.7.1944". This is in German and translates to "Captured on July 8, 1944" in English. This would lead one to believe the pistol was likely taken by a German soldier during the Normandy campaign following D-Day. Such markings were sometimes added by soldiers as personal war trophy inscriptions, though they are not factory original. While this adds historical intrigue and suggests a potential battlefield capture, we can't confirm it as a certainty without documented provenance.
