8/26/26 - This is an excellent example of a possible Japanese contract FN Browning Model 1910 from the 1930's. These pistols were shipped to Japan in the late 1930s, particularly 1937–1940, largely through commercial distributors rather than being a conventional Japanese military contract. Contemporary research notes that Japanese Army, Navy, and aviation officers commonly privately purchased FN 1910s through officer stores and commercial channels. Without a kanji marking, we can't say for sure that this is Japanese, but Vanderlinden's book reports a few in same serial range as this gun (closest is 421328). The gun also comes with several original capture documents dated 1946. The documents mention "1 pistol", but they do not mention make, model, or serial number. So unfortunately, there's no definitive connection to this particular gun. Our consignor claims this gun was captured in Korea in 1946 during a time when the US had a presence there to oversee the surrender of the Japanese occupation. The gun itself has retained about 97% of its original bluing with just very minor muzzle/high edge wear and some light freckling on the grip straps. Mint bore. Fitted with excellent period-correct horn grips. It comes as a rig with two proper magazines and a very nice period-correct tan leather holster.
