Description
6/26/26 - This is an excellent example of a unit marked WKC Police Dress Bayonet by Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie with matching scabbard and frog. It is has all the proper features this seldom-seen variation is known for, including stunning nickel-plated blade and fittings, stag grip panels, police eagle grip emblem, oak-leaf decorated guard, matching leather scabbard, and leather frog. The blade is in excellent condition, retaining nearly all of its plating, with an unsharpened edge that perfectly maintains its original profile, with only light runner marks, a few scattered surface scuffs, and one small area of light abrasion near the top of the blade on the obverse. It is marked with the WKC knight’s helmet logo and “WEYERSBERG / KIRSCHBAUM & CIE / SOLINGEN,” and numbered “523” on the spine, matching on the scabbard. The crossguard is unit marked “S. Op. IV. 153.”, and the scabbard has the matching unit marking stamped beneath the frog, This unit marking likely designates the Schutzpolizei, Oppeln district, fourth command/precinct, weapon no. 153. The hilt shows sharp police eagle detail, varied light and dark stag tones, and the entire handle is similarly excellent condition to the blade, retaining nearly all of its nickel plating on the guard, pommel, screws, and high edges of the handle. The leather scabbard is well-preserved, with visible minor age crazing, linear surface cracks, scattered scratches, edge thinning, and darker wear where it sits under the frog. The plated throat and tip retain pleasant luster with light handling wear and minor scattered dings, and light surface patina. The leather frog is present and in great shape, with surface wear, light oxidation around the rivets, a few missing stiches along the edges, and a very light dusting of white film on the leather.
