Description
10/27/26 - This is an excellent example of a scarce US M3 fighting knife manufactured by PAL Cutlery Co. in 1943. The finish on this M3 blade is in excellent condition with a beautiful dark finish present on the entirety of the blade. The edge of the blade shows some bare metal, though it appears original and not resharpened. The edge has retained a great sharpness with only a few very minor notches, primarily towards the crossguard. In the right light, you can see some very faint signs of some surface patina towards the bottom of the blade near the crossguard and the bottom edge of the blade. The spine of the blade shows some hints of high-edge wear, though it is very light. The right side of the blade bears the "U.S. M3" model designation, the "PAL" maker's mark, and the "1943" production year. The left side of the blade shows some scratches and small pits, though very minor. The crossguard has retained nearly all of its finish, but does show some rough channels on the edges on the surrounding. The leather handle is in excellent condition with a beautiful dark color and almost no color loss. There are a few marks of handling wear and surface blemishes, though very minimal actual loss. All of the fittings on this fighting knife are tight with no play. The pommel bears the US Flaming Bomb Ordnance stamp. The leather M6 scabbard was manufactured by Moose Co. in 1943 as well. The leather is in good shape with no signs of any rips or tears. Near the top of the scabbard and the fastening strap both show some cracking which has lead to some finish loss, however there are no signs of any detrimental or structural damage to the scabbard. All of the rivets and stitching on the scabbard are in excellent condition with no play.
