Description
9/25/25 - This is an excellent, original example of the scarce German WWI Seitengewehr M1884/98 II Sawback Bayonet, purpose-built for the Mauser GEW 98 rifle, rather than converted from earlier M1871/84 stocks. The sawback configuration is seldom encountered, and this particular example has a fantastic edge profile and signature sharp "teeth". The metal on the blade's face is nearly unblemished outside of some very light scabbard wear, though it has been lightly buffed to a high mirror shine. The buffing has caused some fading in the markings, which include the "F. KOELLER & Co., OHLIGS, SOLINGEN" maker's mark, inspection stamp on the spine, and proof on the pommel. The metal on the handle is also buffed and shows light spots of surface oxidation here and there. Fully functional bayonet lock. Fitted with well-preserved wood grips. Comes with excellent original scabbard, which is properly "H" proofed on the endmount and features excellent leather, with just some handling marks and one area of slightly deeper wear.
