Exceptional 1945 Remington Rand 1911A1

9/22/26 - This is a fantastic example of a later-production Remington Rand M1911A1 issued to the U.S. Army during WWII. The left side of the slide has the proper third varation short two-line REMINGTON RAND INC. / SYRACUSE, N.Y. U.S.A. legend, while the frame is is inspector proofed FJA on the left and UNITED STATES PROPERTY / NO. 2147325 / M 1911 A1 U.S. ARMY on the right. P proof is visible on top of the slide, with small inspection/assembly marks on either side of the trigger guard. Properly faded cross-cannons cartouche. The condition is nothing short of phenomenal, with the pistol retaining nearly all of its beautifully even gray-green phosphate, and only trace edge wear on some of the high edges, and a minute handling mark on the right slide flat slightly above the front of the frame. The brown checkered grip panels are equally clean, retaining sharp checkering, with no cracks or chips. It comes with one C proofed magazine, showing some surface rubbing and finish loss. Bore is also excellent, with crisp rifling and minor signs of use, and mechanics are flawless. This would be very difficult example to upgrade.
Remington Rand entered 1911A1 production in 1942, establishing its operation in the company's former Smith Premier typewriter plant in Syracuse, New York. After an arduous and fraught early production followed by a major reorganization in 1943, Remington Rand rapidly became the largest producer of the 1911 during World War II, manufacturing 877,751 pistols through the termination of its contract in July 1945, substantially more than the other two major wartime producers, Colt and Ithaca. The short approximately one inch slide logo seen on this pistol was the third and final Remington Rand marking pattern, introduced in November 1943 and used through later production.
