Fantastic Walther PP - 2nd Production Year

9/22/26 - This is a stunning, early-production Walther PP manufactured in 1930, featuring crisp pre-war "Crown N" commercial proof marks on the slide and frame. Textbook early-pattern production features. The gun is in near-mint condition, retaining about 98–99% of its original high-polish commercial blued finish, with the only discernible wear being the slightest trace of thinning at the heel of the backstrap, a bit of muzzle wear, and a couple of light surface scrapes. The small parts even still retain the vivid fire-bluing they left the factory with (nearly 100 years ago), providing a brilliant aesthetic contrast against the deep, dark gloss of the frame and slide. It comes fitted with correct early checkered black bakelite grip panels in excellent condition, and includes one proper high polish blued magazine. The bore is also excellent, very bright with sharp distinct rifling, and some light, scattered pinpricking in the grooves.

Introduced in late 1929, the Walther Polizeipistole represented a revolutionary leap forward in handgun engineering, establishing Fritz Walther’s double-action/single-action trigger system, automatic hammer block, and integral slide-mounted decocking safety as the global standard for compact defensive sidearms. Leaving the factory in 1930 during the volatile, street-fighting twilight of the Weimar Republic, this second-year commercial example was produced at the absolute zenith of Carl Walther’s hand-fitted Zella-Mehlis craftsmanship, a full decade before the rushed quotas, tool marks, and finish degradation of the wartime German rearmament era took hold. In an era of intense political instability and economic upheaval, these ultra-reliable early pistols were privately acquired by detectives, government ministers, and high-profile citizens as discreet defensive insurance. Given its exceptional state of preservation and its second year manufacture, this is a true cornerstone example of pre-war German arms making.
