Description
10/14/25- For sale is a cased pair of WWI German Feldglas 08 binoculars. The lightweight Feldglas 08 was the most common set of binoculars in use by the German Army in WWI and prioritized size and simplicity over powerful magnification. This pair of binoculars comes in its original leather case that still includes the rare paper instructions pasted to the inside of the top lid. The binoculars have minor wear and patina but retain almost all their original finish. They are marked XII.16, indicating manufacture in December of 1916. They are still functional and provide a clear image, although the adjustment knobs could be cleaned and reset. The case has noticeable wear, especially around the edges. The closure straps are present but broke, and the two belt loops are present and intact. There is writing on the front from J.B. McQuaid, a member of the A.E.F. who likely captured or brought these binoculars home. Overall in very good condition with an interesting history.
