Description
10/20/26 - This is a fine example of a Harrington & Richardson "The American" Double Action Second Model revolver chambered in .32 S&W, and featuring a scarce 6-in octagonal barrel. Produced in Worcester, Massachusetts, following the post-1904 transition away from black powder to smokeless cartridges, the Second Model updated H&R's solid-frame line with explicit caliber rollmarks and an updated company address. The top barrel flat displays the crisp 'H. & R. ARMS COMPANY' address, while the left flat reads '32 S. & W. CTGE'. The top strap is roll-marked 'THE AMERICAN DOUBLE ACTION'. This revolver is stamped with serial number on the butt of the frame, and the last two matching digits are stamped on the rear cylinder face. The firearm is in very good original condition, retaining approximately 90% of its factory blued finish. There is high-edge wear along the barrel contours, finish loss and spots of oxidation along the muzzle radius. Light surface freckling is present throughout the grip straps, the cylinder, and frame. A few scattered areas of slightly deeper pitting are also present along the cylinder's leading edges, and on the top and front sections of the frame. The color case-hardened hammer and trigger exhibit mottled aging with sharp spur knurling. It comes fitted with original black hard rubber grips, which display crisp checkering and molded floral tops with no chips or cracks, aside from a tiny nick on the lower rear of the right panel. This nick has caused that panel to come ever so slightly loose, and the screws show almost no signs of marring. The bore is excellent, bright with sharply-defined rifling and minimal frost in the grooves, though there are a couple spots of pinpricking within the barrel. The mechanical condition is very solid. Timing is excellent, and the trigger functions properly in both single and double action. The one minor issue is the slight tightness of the cylinder pin latch. This doesn't factor heavily during cylinder removal, but inserting the cylinder pin back once the cylinder is properly seated into the frame can be a bit tricky as a result.
