05/26/26 - For sale here is a cool piece of sporting history, a Winchester Model 12 that was made customer for Ty Cobb, one of the greatest major league baseball players of all time. Cobb was the 1st player ever inducted to the baseball Hall of Fame, and is very widely considered one of the five best hitters ever, and retains the higher career batting average of any player in league history. This piece is consigned to us by the customer that purchased it directly from Cobb's grandson, Charles L. Cobb. It is accompanied by a couple of signed documents from Cobb, including one directly stating he gifted it to our consignor. The listing also includes a baseball signed by the grandson, included as it the gift was given to our consignor.
The shotgun was made in 1920 and sports a 30" barrel with a Full choke. The gun had been refinished sometime in the past, and the receiver had been buffed/polished. There are prickling of pitting visible under the finish on the front of the receiver and on the barrel. The stock is in great shape with a shiny varnish and the checkering is still present. There is a 1/2" crack at the wrist on the lower tang. The forend is in great shape with prominent checkering. The bore is bright with some debris from storage. The action functions properly. LOP is 14.25".
