Description

9/10/19 - This is a nice, early production Winchester Model 1892 carbine that was made prior to World War I in 1914. In overall fine original condition, with no replaced or repro parts, the carbine retains about 75% of its original bluing. The stock is also in fine condition with some usual light handling marks. Fully functioning, the lever action mechanics are very tight and crisp. The caliber is the much sought-after .25-20, and the bore is shiny with strong rifling, though it does have some areas of freckling. Winchester manufactured 28,768 lever action arms in 1914; based on the serial number, this carbine was made in February 1914. Principal Markings include: “745704” (serial number); “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED OCTOBER 14, 1884”; “MODEL 1892”; WINCHESTER TRADE MARK REG. IN U.S. PAT. OFF.”; “25-20 W.C.F.” (rarest caliber). Wonderful opportunity to own an original Winchester Model 1892 “Saddle Ring” carbine made famous in the Western movies and TV shows of the 1950s and 1960s; John Wayne is seen sporting one in most of his movies and Chuck Connors used a modified Model 1892 Saddle Ring carbine in The Rifleman!
