Description
2/5/26 - This is an excellent example of a very rare Colt Officer's Model Target revolver from 1940. This particular firearm bears the "CSR" military inspection mark of Charles S. Reed, who was most commonly known for his 1911 inspections from 1938 to 1940. This Colt revolver comes with the factory letter, which shows that it was purchased by the US Government and sent to Springfield Armory on August 1, 1940. Information confirming this shipment can also be found in Charles Pate's book US Handguns of World War II: The Secondary Pistols and Revolvers. It states that 20 were sent in said shipment, but we were unable to confirm the total amount of this variation to receive military inspection. This Officer's Model Target has retained nearly all of its original finish, with only light muzzle wear, some hints of high edge wear, and some minor finish loss on the left side of the barrel near the muzzle. Target features the cross-hatching on the back strap, along with the target rear and front sights. Fitted with a hard rubber grip on the left side of the gun and a wood grip on the right side. Both grip plates are in great shape with no chips or cracks, just light handling wear on the wood grip. The bore is mint with crisp rifling. The gun functions as intended with good lock up and timing.
