Description

7/17/24 - This is an original WW2 production OSS "Drop Knife". These are referred to as drop knives because they were intended to be dropped behind enemy lines as weapons for resistance fighters and oppressed civilians. This example is known as a 1st pattern as the blade is made from a US M1873 trapdoor rifle bayonet. The blade retains some of the original finish, but there's honest surface patina and dark discoloration throughout. The D-shaped hand guard has 4 stamped, rounded spikes similar to the M1917 trench / knuckle knives. The pommel is an extension of the blade with a sharp point to be used as a skull crusher. The hardened rubber handle is excellent with sharp grooves and no notable issues. Comes with an original scabbard that shows dark brown patina throughout. One small dent near the mouth, but this doesn't affect fit or function. A cool piece of US History, coordinated by the OSS (Office of Strategic Services).
