Description
9/18/24 - This is a unique piece of US history; a hand-engraved Western Knife with a matching named leather sheath. The sheath is also hand-inscribed "U.S.S. Russell DD414" along with a drawing of the vessel, presumably by the veteran who carried and engraved the blade while onboard the ship. The knife is a scarce Western 8 inch fixed blade G-46-8 model with proper WW2 black and red spacers, a crisp leather handle, beautiful high polish blued blade, and twice pinned pommel (correct crude style). The blade and original leather scabbard alone are highly collectible, but what makes this example special is the hand-engraved name on one side of the blade, located inside the blood groove. The cursive is hard to decipher, but we believe the name is "S.J. Limbrunner". The initials and style of writing matches that found on the front of the scabbard. This veteran also named the ship he was stationed on, a famous Sims-class destroyer with a decorated service history throughout WW2.
