M1880 Springfield Hunting Knife

2/19/26- For sale is a Springfield M1880 hunting knife with original leather scabbard. These knives were issued as utility tools to the troops for tasks like skinning game, clearing light vegetation, or even as an improvised shovel. The blade has been heavily buffed and polished and shows very little evidence of aging or use. There are a few spots where it looks like chips or corrosion have been worked out of the surface. The crossguard is brass with a wooden handle. The guard is serialized 4518, indicating production in 1882, and the reverse side says "U.S. Springfield". The handle has expected age and wear but no serious scrapes or cracks. The scabbard is leather with brass fittings. The leather has some wear but no deep scrapes or tears. The front of the scabbard is stamped "A 13 Inf. 54". The back of the belt hook is stamped "R.I.A." for Rock Island. The blade is very large, 9 inches long and 2 wide. Overall in very good condition.
