4/8/26 - Commercial Mauser C96 pistol in 7.63mm Mauser, serial number 5536, complete with its matching original holster-stock, representing a wartime production pistol from a special serial-numbered batch produced during the First World War. All visible numbered components match, including the pistol and stock, with correct commercial Mauser address markings and standard Crown/U commercial proofs. The pistol exhibits correct period features including the NS (Neue Sicherung) safety-marked hammer, solid safety lever, tangent rear sight graduated to 1000 meters, and small-ring hammer configuration. While this serial range is often referred to in collector literature as “Scandinavian,” Mauser archive research confirms no such factory contract exists; rather, as documented by Mauro Baudino, these pistols were commercial C96s produced in a proprietary numbering sequence during a period when Mauser output was absorbed by German authorities, with pistols routed through German military depots and distribution channels alongside other commercial 7.63mm and wartime 9mm C96 pistols. Some examples may have been later supplied onward by German authorities, but not under a direct Mauser contract. The matching stock is correct and intact, confirming early pairing rather than later assembly. Correctly understood, this is not an early variant, not a Red Nine, and not a Scandinavian or Finnish contract, but a scarce, fully matching wartime commercial C96 from a non-linear serial batch. The finish rates about 97% with minor muzzle wear. While there isn't a ton of actual finish loss, there is noticeable pin-pricking on the right side of the frame. Fitted with matching-numbered wood grips. The bore has pretty good rifling, but there is some minor pitting in the grooves. Tiny import mark on the inner channel of the stock lug.
