Description
2/18/26 - This is an excellent example of an all-matching 1939 Mauser P.08 "S/42" Luger rig which comes with a WWI holster and two numbered, but mismatched magazines. This Mauser has retained about 93-94% of its original finish with most loss existing as muzzle wear and high edge wear. There are more areas of finish loss on the left side of the barrel and some pin pricking on the front and back grip strap. This P.08 is fitted with the original, matching-numbered wood grips. The bore is bright with crisp rifling, but does show minor frost. This Luger comes with two numbered magazines, though they are not numbered to the gun or each other. This rig comes with a WWI holster which was manufactured in 1915. This holster is missing the Luger tool pouch underneath the lid, there is some repairs made to the left belt loop in the back of the holster reattached at the top of the loop), and some threads ripping on the left side of the holster.
This firearm was sent to us by the great nephew of the soldier that captured it. While we have no additional provenance, the seller tells us that his great uncle was Cpl. Dominic Rinaldi, a radio operator with the 6th Tactical Air Squadron attached to the 102nd infantry, served through the Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Roer River campaigns. He captured the luger during his time serving the country and brought it back to the U.S. where it was passed down to his nephew in 1959, and then to his son in 1981.
