8/14/26 - This is a minty example of a Spreewerk P.38 issued to the German military in October of 1943. Spreewerk only made about 280,000 of these, a small fraction of the total P.38s produced by the other two wartime makers (Mauser and Walther). Spreewerks are characterized by a rougher finishing and less stringent fitting processes, with heavy machining marks typically visible throughout the metal along the profile views. By contrast, this example exhibits a stunning blue with relatively minimal machining marks. The slide is properly marked with Spreewerk's cyq maker code, and correct Eagle 88 acceptance proofs in all the right places. The pistol is all matching and has retained about 97-98% of its original finish. There is light wear around the muzzle and front sight, along the high edges of the slide, a small scratch along the upper curvature of the safety lever's path, and a very light scuff on the right frame near the grip. Excellent bore, and functional decocker. Fitted with a proper set of reddish brown bakelite grips. While they still fit well and are fully functional, there is cracking in the upper front of the right panel, and on the bottom of both panels near the magazine release. Comes with one proper magazine.
