Description
11/3/26 - This is a near-mint example of a Luftwaffe pilots helmet and goggles manufactured by Siemens during WWII. The leather on this helmet is in beautiful condition retaining a strong yet pliable condition. The dark brown color of the leather is present on almost the entirety of the helmet with very minimal color loss. There are no signs of any rips or tears in the leather and all of the fittings appear in tact with no functional or cosmetic damage. The top of the helmet holds a light brown size adjustment cloth with a metal clip to alter the size to fit the pilots head. The front of the helmet hold a hook sewn into the leather which has retained a strong and sturdy connection. The helmet has an integrated communication system with a speaker for each ear sewn into the helmet. The back of the helmet has two loops sewn into each side of the helmet to support the elastic goggle band and has buttons at the top of each strap. Between those two loops is the communication wire from the audio system integrated into the helmet, one wire going into the neck strap which consists of two throat microphones and another wire to plug into the voice comm system. The inside of the helmet has a nice, bright sheepskin lining with very minimal damage or discoloration. The speaker in each ear shows no signs of any chips or cracks in the covers. The back of the liner bears the manufacturer's label which provides more information on the helmet. The throat strap and both throat microphones are in great shape with a secure fastening and no signs of any rips or tears in the straps. The fastening snap is secure with no color loss on the snap itself. There are two straps that secure under the chin with no damage apparent to each, or to the buckle fasteners themselves. The stitching on the helmet is all present and in excellent condition. There are no signs of any ripped or torn threads present on the helmet.
The goggles with this set are in nice condition. The glass lenses on the goggles are both in excellent condition with no scratches or cracks present in either side. The metal shrouds surrounding each lens have retained a majority of their original green paint, though there are some areas of high-edge wear on each one. The metal bridge between the lenses is still secure and adjustable. The rubber within the goggles does show some signs of dry cracking and areas of stitching show some separation between the rubber and the shrouds. The goggles. have retained their original metal fasteners and the original elastic band, though the elastic has dried out and has lost a majority of its retention strength. Overall this is a near-mint example of a beautiful winter variation of the LKp 101 Luftwaffe pilots helmet and goggles.
