Description
3/18/26 - This is a beautiful, near-mint example of a Smith & Wesson Model 1917 issued to the US military in 1918. It is all matching, "United States Property" marked, and has the proper flaming bomb and "Eagle Head" military acceptance proofs. It has retained about 98% of its original high polish bluing. There is just a hint of muzzle wear, a light roll mark on the cylinder, a few tiny handling marks here and there, and one tiny dot of oxidation on the right side of the barrel. Fitted with excellent wood grips - the right side is numbered in pencil to match the gun. The bore has strong rifling with just some very light frosting in the grooves. Comes with an original rope lanyard. The included Smith & Wesson Archives letter states this gun was shipped to the US Government, Springfield Armory in Springfield, MA on September 5, 1918. It also states it left the factory with a 5.5" barrel, blued finish, and smooth walnut grips.
