Nice 1943 Walther P.38 Magazine - Serialized Base

7/31/26 - This is a nice example of a Walther P.38 magazine that was manufactured in 1943. This magazine is Walther's "P.38v" variation which was first introduced in February of 1943. The size of this variation's unfolded magazine housing was increased by 2mm, which is why it is believed that the "v" from this variation stands for "verängert" which means "enlarged." The left side of this magazine bears the "P.38v" designation, and the top of the spine has the upside-down E/359 Walther proof. The floor plate on this magazine is serialized "8849g" on the toe, which was a common practice for ac40 and ac41 variations, but this practice was discontinued in early 1942. This leads me to believe that this floor plate has been replaced at some point from the original to this variation.

The finish on this magazine is in very nice condition with very minimal finish loss. There are a few scratches on the front and the spine, and one small area of finish loss on the top left corner of the right side of the magazine. The floor plate has some high-edge wear, some light patina on the toe and on the bottom of the baseplate, and some finish loss on the right side of the bottom of the plate. The follower spring in this magazine has very smooth travel while maintaining tight pressure. This magazine is mechanically sound and fully functional.
