9/24/26 - This is a nice example of a Colt 1902 Military magazine, manufactured between 1905 and 1917. Early variations of Colt 1902 magazines were nickeled and stamped with "PAT'D SEPT. 9. 1884" on the baseplate. Colt then transitioned to a blued magazine, but retained the same stamp on the baseplate. Shortly after switching to a blued finish, the patent date was eliminated from the magazine. Once the patent date was dropped, a high-polish, unmarked baseplate was used until the switch to the "CAL.38 COLT" stamp. The finish on this magazine is in good shape with minimal finish loss. A majority of the tube is covered in a light layer of patina. The left side of the magazine shows a handful of small spots of rust. The spine and left side of the magazine bear some wear striations and surface blemishes. The bottom of the magazine tube shows minimal wear and has retained a majority of its original polished-blue finish. The follower in this magazine has smooth travel throughout the tube with a strong yet responsive spring.
