Description
8/19/26 - This is a hard-to-find Springfield contract 1911. There were only about 30,000 of these made. This one has a correct slide and frame and a proper Springfield barrel. However, the small parts are not "S" marked. Replaced sights. There is an "AA" marking on the frame, indicating it was reworked at the Augusta Arsenal after WWI. It comes with a correct Springfield magazine with the fold-over metal base and brass reinforcement. It also comes with a matching-numbered arsenal shipping box. The label on the box says it was shipped from Anniston Arsenal, not the Augusta Arsenal. The box looks period-correct, so this disparity is difficult to explain. Our best guess is that it went to the Anniston Arsenal after the Augusta Arsenal. The gun was made in 1916. It has been entirely arsenal-refinished and parkerized. While there is very little actual finish loss, there is light spotty oxidation on much of the slide. Fitted with correct wood grips. Mint bore.
