Description
10/12/26 - This is a rare Colt Model 1902 Philippine revolver, made at the request of the U.S. Army during the Philippine-American War and Moro Rebellion. Only about 4,600 were produced. They were fitted with a stronger mainspring so the hammer would reliably fire the less sensitive .45 Long Colt government ammunition, and the smaller Model 1878 trigger and trigger guard were replaced with larger ones to help with the resulting stiffer trigger pull. They also have a lanyard loop on the butt. This one is all matching with the proper "RAC" military proofs, and it is dated "1902" and "U.S." property marked on the right side of the frame. The gun has been refinished with a dull, almost parkerized finish, with just minor high edge and muzzle wear. While there isn't a lot of actual finish loss, there are some dings here and there and areas of light pitting under the finish. There is some minor discoloration and light surface rust around the serial number on the butt of the frame. Fitted with period-correct hard rubber grips that show some rounding wear, with a noticeable chip on the left side. The rifling in the bore is a little worn, with spotty oxidation throughout. As with all of these, the action and cylinder are a little loose, but it still functions fine. An affordable way to own one of these scarce Philippine-era Colts.
