Description
5/27/26 - This is an example of what Jan Still in the "Axis Pistols" book refers to as a rare Weimar-Era, Early Nazi, "Sneak" Kriegsmarine Luger. It has all the proper characteristics, such as an "M Anchor" and "N. 452" navy property marking on the back strap, blank chamber, straw-colored small parts, commercial "Crown N" commercial proofs, and is in the proper "r, s, t, u" serial number block. One of only about 500 made. According to the book, "...indicating issue from or at the Marinestation der Nordsee headquartered at Wilhelmshaven...These are all characteristics commonly found on r, s, t and u range parts assembled Lugers termed Sneaks by many collectors. These were most likely assembled by Mauser in the 1931-1934 period. The crown/N proof on its left receiver is likely a DWM remnant. The M/anchor and property is Navy arsenal engraved through the Mauser blue indicating issue sometime after it was assembled by Mauser, probably early in the Nazi era". This one comes as a rig with a navy-marked magazine (mismatched) and a navy "M Anchor" marked K-date style holster - there is a repair on the right belt loop. The gun itself is matching with an import mark on the underside of the barrel. It has retained about 90% of its bluing with general high edge wear, muzzle wear, and some spotty and somewhat scratchy wear on the grip straps. Some light scratching on the left side of the frame and on the side plate. Fitted with excellent un-numbered wood grips. The bore has good rifling, but there is some frosting / fouling in the grooves.
