SOLD - Rare Inland M1 Carbine - X Suffix

5/27/21 - This is an excellent WWII U.S. M1 Carbine that was manufactured by Inland in late 1943. This carbine is unusual in that the serial number is followed by an "X" suffix. The receiver is also marked "SG" on the left side, below the wood line. This indicates that the receiver was actually manufactured by Saginaw for Inland. Apparently Saginaw inadvertently duplicated the serial numbers of some receivers that were manufactured by Inland and thus the "X" was added to avoid having two weapons with the exact same number. This carbine has all Inland marked components appropriate to the time of manufacture. The Inland marked barrel is correct and appropriately dated "10-43". It does appear to be a restoration as some of the parts have been refinished and there are some adjustable sight stake marks just barely visible beneath the 2-position "flip sight". The overall condition is quite good and the finish on the various components is nearly 100% with only a few handling marks a couple of tiny spots of corrosion on the barrel. The early style "high wood" stock is in excellent shape with the correct large ordnance wheel cartouche on the right side of the butt and "IO" in the sling slot. The 2-rivet handguard is also correctly marked "IO" and is in very good shape although there is a repaired chip at the front that is only visible upon disassembly. The mechanics appear to be in perfect working order. The bore is bright and has a muzzle wear reading of about 3.0. This carbine comes with a correctly coded Type I 15-round magazine, original 1944 dated sling in very good shape, and an original oiler.
