4/14/26 - This is a beautiful example of a very rare Colt Model 1900 Automatic "sight safety" pistol, manufactured in 1901 and chambered in .38 Rimless. There were only ~4,300 of these pistols manufactured, all from 1900-1903, with some portion going to the military, and the rest sold commercially. To make this pistol even more unique, it still features the original, unaltered pop-up rear sight. This feature doubled as a firing pin block and a rear sight. At a point in production, Colt decided to abandon the sight safety and offered to alter any existing examples by removing the sight safety and replacing the device with a plug that was pinned in place. This particular example has been completely nickel-plated. We have ordered a Colt factory letter that has not arrived yet (the buyer will receive this letter when it arrives). We did a call from Colt with some of the information. According to them, the gun left the factory with a blued finish and was shipped to Birmingham Arms & Cycle Company in Birmingham, AL on June 20, 1901. Visually with the gun in hand, the markings are all very crisp, and the nickeled finish is flawless. In our opinion, work of this quality could only have been done at the Colt Factory or Turnbull. The gun is gorgeous with only a few very light micro-scratches in the finish here and there. Excellent case-hardening on the hammer. The bore shows decent rifling, but there is pin-pricking throughout. Fitted with really nice mother-of-pearl grips. It comes with a really nice leather presentation case, cleaning kit, two magazines, oiler bottle, and one box of ammunition.
