8/19/26 - This is a nice example of a rare, pre-WW2 Smith and Wesson M&P .38 4th Change revolver. Chambered in .38 Special with a 2" barrel. It is matching and comes with a S&W factory letter. According to the factory letter, this particular revolver "was shipped from our factory on January 17, 1936 and delivered to Harry Goldstein Co, Tulsa, Oklahoma. The records indicate that this revolver was shipped with a 2 inch barrel, blue finish, and round butt grips. This shipment contained 6 units of this model in the above configuration and they were marked for the State of Oklahoma, Highway Department and Tax Commission." Included with this listing is a few printouts of period photographs of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. This gun also comes from the collection of the gun writer and shootist, Jim Wilson. It also includes a signed COA from Jim. The gun itself has retained roughly 85% of its original high polish bluing. There is general high edge wear, muzzle wear, spotty wear on the back strap, and areas of splotchy discoloration on the cylinder and left front of the frame. Fitted with period-correct black hard rubber grips. Minty bore.
