Description

6/26/20 - This is an ultra rare prototype of the Colt Pony in its original, matching box. This model was produced in 1973 and is also referred to as the 'Colt Pony - Never Was' by some collectors. In 1972, Firearms International became the middleman to supply the parts needed to start up the new .380 Automatic Pony Program and Colt would finish and inspect the guns for distribution. Only 47 pistols were produced before Colt dropped the new Pony program in 1974. Colt's records show there are approximately 47 guns received by Colt from FI and only ten of these guns were kept. The balance of 37 were returned to FI but weren't destroyed and are still in circulation. After Colt's rejection, Firearms International successfully remarketed the Pony as its Model "D" .380 Automatic; also known as "The Colt Pony - NOT APPROVED". This one has 98-99% of the original blue with a bit of muzzle wear on the right side and minor finish loss on the bottom of the back strap. Minty bore and grips. Box is in very good condition with label that's serialized and matching to the pistol.
