Description
5/12/26 - The J.P. Sauer & Sohn Model 38 was introduced in the late 1930s by the German firm J.P. Sauer & Sohn as a compact blowback-operated pocket pistol chambered primarily in .32 ACP (7.65mm Browning). It served as the direct predecessor to the much more famous Sauer 38H, and many of its design features carried over into the later pistol. The Model 38 was produced during a transitional period for German handgun development, just before the outbreak of World War II. These pistols are well-made and finely machined, reflecting Sauer’s reputation for quality commercial firearms. This one is all matching and "Crown N" proofed. It has retained about 90% of its original high polish bluing. The majority of the finish loss comes in the form of somewhat spotty wear around the muzzle on both sides of the slide. One small streak of wear on the front strap. The bore has great rifling, but there is an area of noticeable pits about halfway down. Fitted with period-correct black bakelite grips. It comes as a rig with two S&S marked magazines, owners manual, and a black leather Sauer holster (there is a faint Sauer ink stamp on the inside).
