Description
2/25/26 - This is a rare, early Walther P.38 from 1940 that is commonly referred to as the "40 added" variation, one of only 6,000 produced. At some point during the production of these pistols, the Germans decided to start adding the two digit date for the year of the manufacturing, but the 'ac' marking had already been applied to the slides. Since the 'ac' was already present and centered on the slide, the date ('40') was added below the pre-existing 'ac'. This P.38 is all-matching and original, including the grip panels. This Walther has retained about 85-90% of its original finish. Most noticeable areas of finish are on the right side of the slide, just about the trigger, as well as muzzle and high-edge wear towards the front of the slide. There is thinning on the tang, as well as on the front strap, which also shows some spots of corrosion. The top strap also shows some finish loss and light spots of corrosion. Aside from finish loss, there are also everyday wear-and-tear blemishes on the barrel, slide, and frame. Fitted with the original, serialized dark brown bakelite grips that show no signs of chips or cracks. This firearm comes with a period-correct 'Eagle/359' proofed magazine. Bore has decent but somewhat worn rifling and heavy frost throughout. Fully functional, including de-cocker.
