Description
2/27/26 - This is a minty example of a rare, dual-tone Mauser P.38, produced in 1945 but bearing a 'byf 44' slide. The parkerized finish on this P.38 is contrasted by the blued components, which is how it earns its dual-tone title. The blued components come from a change in production where Mauser found it easier to produce the small parts by use of sheet metal forming. While the slide is marked 'byf 44', the serial number range places this firearm in their 1945 production, which is when Mauser switched from the 'byf' code to the 'svw' code. Only about .6% of P.38s fall into this niche transition category bearing the 'byf' code after 1944. This Mauser has retained about 97% of its original finish, with just the slightest hints of high-edge wear and muzzle wear. This P.38 is fitted with period-correct, black plastic grip panels. The bore has a beautiful mirror finish with crisp rifling, like-new. Fully functional, including de-cocker.
