Scarce DWM "Sneak" Luger - Unit Marked

2/20/26 - This is a scarce DWM "Sneak" P.08 Luger from the 1920's that was issued to the Weimar-era German police force. These are typically termed Sneak Lugers based on the lack of any identifying manufactures markings and proof marks, which the Nazis did to disguise their early rearmament efforts. It has a blank chamber, blank toggle, "Crown N" proofs throughout, and a Weimar-era "Waffen 66" proof. This one also has the proper police attributes such as an added sear safety, magazine safety, and a unit marking on the front strap. The unit markings were formatted as [District/Branch].[Locality].[Weapon Number]. The "L. Hi. 155" unit marking on this particular gun show that the gun was for the rural police (Landjägerei) in Hildesheim, and that this was the 155th firearm for that unit. This gun has retained about 90% of its original finish with most loss existing around the muzzle, the sideplate and bottom of front strap. Otherwise, there are hints of high-edge wear. The Luger is fitted with period-correct wooden grips that show no signs of cracking, but there is a chip by the safety lever at the top of the left grip panel, and the top left side of the left grip panel has been altered to account for the added magazine safety. The bore is bright with mirrored rifling and minimal signs of use. This P.08 comes with a numbered, non-matching magazine.  NOTE:  The hold open on this pistol is not engaged by this magazine, but does work with other mags so the problem is with the follower/lips on this magazine.
