Description
7/1/20 - This is a very early Springfield Model 1903 that is becoming harder and harder to find in original configuration. The barrel dates to November of 1910 when these rifles were still being blued, rather than parkerized. You can even see some of the original case hardening on the small parts. This one is in very good condition with most of the finish loss on the trigger group and the front sight. Excellent finish and all original which is extremely hard to find on these 1903 rifles. The rifle has a blued barrel, bolt, barrel bands, buttplate, trigger guard and floor plate. The receiver is case hardened with a dark, oil-quenched finish. The safety lock and magazine cut-off have a water-quenched, casehardened finish. The bayonet lug on the upper barrel band is stamped with the "H" found only on Springfield Armory bands. The "high-hump" hand guard has the sight relief cut and spring clips introduced in 1910. The stock is in fantastic condition with crisp JFC inspectors mark. A circled script "P" proof mark is stamped on the underside of the stock behind the trigger guard. Original cleaning kit in the buttstock. Excellent bore. Nearly impossible find for a WW1 US rifle collector.Specifications
